Discover the Whispers of the Woods: A Historical Journey with Warren Foster
January 28, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$20
“Whose woods these are I think I know…” – Robert Frost-
Embark on a winter journey through the heart of the Battell Woods, guided by none other than Warren Foster, the very individual who nurtured the trees that now canopy your ski trails at Rikert. This unique experience begins with an intimate gathering in the rustic charm of the Barn, where a crackling fire sets the stage for Warren’s enlightening introduction.
As the flames dance and flicker, Warren will share tales of the Battell area’s past, weaving stories of the spruce trees that stand tall and proud today. Then, donning boots and snowshoes, we will venture into the serene embrace of the woods. Amidst the gentle hush of snow-laden branches, explore the historical use of these majestic spruces in crafting clapboards, a testament to the area’s rich heritage.
Our journey will lead us back to the Barn by 3 PM, where warmth awaits in the form of a welcoming fire and a comforting cup of hot cocoa. This event offers more than just a walk; it’s an hour-long immersion in the beauty and history of the Rikert Outdoor Center, enhanced by historical maps displayed for your viewing pleasure.
