Welcome to the Elementary School Program at Rikert Outdoor Center, a cherished initiative that has been nurturing young skiers and snowshoers since its inception in the 1980s by our founder, John Rubright. Every winter, we proudly collaborate with local elementary schools to introduce hundreds of children to the joys of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

A Playful Introduction to Winter Sports

Our program kicks off with playful activities in the field, where games are not just games, but stepping stones to comfort and proficiency on skis. Through engaging in favorites like Simon Says, Tag, and Sharks & Minnows, children naturally improve their nimbleness, coordination, and agility. These games serve as the foundation upon which we build more complex skiing skills.

Under the guidance of our enthusiastic instructors, children progress through a series of skill-building activities. Our teaching methodology emphasizes fun and encouragement, allowing kids to learn at their own pace in a supportive environment.
