Summer Projects – Trail Work – 2024

As the vibrant colors of fall start to appear—especially in our wetlands—we’re excited to share updates on the significant trail improvements made this summer at Rikert Outdoor Center.

One major development is the thoughtful widening of the Tormondsen Family Race Course, a key feature of our venue. These enhancements were made to meet the standards for FIS Homologation. But what exactly does that mean?

FIS Homologation is an official certification process by the International Ski Federation (FIS) that ensures a venue’s race trails meet the requirements for hosting international competitions. For Rikert, this means our trails are now recognized as a competitive venue capable of hosting high-level races, further cementing our reputation in the world of Nordic skiing. Additionally, the widening of the course will allow us to optimize snowmaking production this winter, ensuring a reliable snow base for training and races.

Beyond the race trails, our entire network of trails has been meticulously maintained. We’ve cleared fallen trees, mowed grassy areas, and made critical adjustments to keep the trails in peak condition for the 2024-2025 ski season.

Whether you’re a casual skier or an elite athlete, these updates ensure that Rikert Outdoor Center remains a top-notch destination for winter recreation and competitive Nordic skiing alike.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get ready for another fantastic season on the snow!
